Bio

Melanie Pruitt Art
Hawaii Island artist creating tropical themed art

20 + years ago, Melanie's artistic endeavors were physically active, including springboard diving and gymnastics, garden design, dancing ballet, and teaching Creative Dance to preschoolers. She is also a published author and has been a motivational speaker where she greatly enjoyed preparing the visual presentation as well as the content.

When she came down with a debilitating chronic illness, all of these physically demanding artistic outlets slipped away. But, she was determined not to let this ruin her life.

She had long dreamt of learning to paint with watercolor, and decided it was time to learn. She has now been painting and selling her artwork since 2005.

She won 2 awards at local Vancouver Watercolor Society shows when living in the PNW, and now, as a Hawaii resident, her artwork has been accepted into juried exhibits and is found in galleries across Hawaii Island.

Watercolor continues to be her first love. She loves the dance that occurs between water and pigment and finds every painting an adventure. But she is currently expanding and exploring, finding great enjoyment of expressing her personality in a variety of styles and media.

Through her art, she desires to share her love for, and awe in the beauty of creation. Being an art appreciator and collector herself, she says, "The best art, touches my heart and makes me 'feel" something. It may be happiness, joy, or even sadness. One of my favorite pieces even makes me cry. I hope to stir feelings for those who view my artwork. I want to convey a feeling of wonder, the joyfulness that comes with living in Hawaii and to draw the viewer closer to The Creator of all beauty!"

Melanie is a mother of 3, and grandmother of 2. She lives on the East side of Hawaii Island (Big Island) with her husband, Bill.
